HE HEADQUARTERS OF "ST. LADISLAUS" MASONIC LODGE - THE HEADQUARTERS OF THE BIHOR GENERAL BORDER AUTHORITY

Strada Armatei Române

About

An interesting building, whose exterior, but most of all interior, have always been covered in an atmosphere of mysticism and mystery. It is located at no.4, Universităţii Street. The building sheltered for almost half of century the "St. Ladislaus" Masonic Lodge. The architects of this Eclectic building with dominant Neoclassic elements were two members of the Masonic Lodge of Budapest, Bálint Zoltán and Jambor János. Without being an imposing or massive construction, it comes to the attention of the architecture admirers as the only construction that strictly respects the Masonic pattern. The façade, according to the Masonic pattern, has no windows, just a well-marked portico. The portico is supported by two lateral pilasters, and towards the centre it has two small columns that end in sober Doric chapters. The superior part of the portico is formed by an entablature made of: architrave, frieze, cornice and a triangular pediment. At a certain moment, all these Neoclassic construction elements were combined with Masonic ornamentations. Unfortunately, the "divine eye", framed by the ray triangle, and the statues of the sphinx have disappeared. It is worth mentioning the fact that the Secession style is present in the fence.
