Velázquez

Triunfo Cuisines: Spanish

About

This restaurant was founded in 1989 by the Gastronomic Society of Andalusia. Named for Spain's greatest Golden Age artist, it is near two landmark squares, Puerta de Elvira and Plaza del Triunfo. The decor is in the typical Spanish style with a wood-beamed dining room upstairs and hams hanging from the ceiling at the bodega on the ground floor. Foodies who like to eat well and affordably, but not flashily, appreciate the chef's brand of cooking. Offerings change with the seasons, and every autumn a delectable pâté of pheasant liver is featured as an appetizer. One of the chef's signature dishes has Moroccan overtones: honey-coated baked lamb. Also in the Moroccan style is oven-baked lamb flavored with mint. Fish fanciers will also like the braised medallions of monkfish (lomitos de rape).
