The "House of Shots" is a fortresslike palace that is Renaissance in its architecture, dating from the 1500s. Its name comes from the musket barrels protruding from its facade. Once it was owned by a noble family who was given the Generalife after the Reconquest of Granada. Their proudest possession was the sword of Boabdil, the last Muslim king. A carving of that sword can be seen in the facade of the building along with statues of Mercury, Theseus, Hercules, Hector, and Jason. Inside you'll find intriguing portraits of Catholic monarchs, including Ferdinand, Isabella, and even Philip IV. Each royal looks rather dour. The major feature of the house is the Cuadra Dorada (Hall of Gold), which is decorated with gold lettering and more royal portraits. Various photos, engravings, and centuries-old lithographs depict Granada in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
