About

Explore towering Redwoods in serenity at Montgomery Woods State Natural Reserve, a 2,743 acre Mendocino County gem. Considered among the most secluded of California’s redwood parks, Montgomery Woods feaetures acres of Redwood groves that have never been logged boasting trails for hiking at all levels. Areas for picnics can be found throughout the reserve and offer a quiet respite to admire Montgomery Creek or do a bit of bird-watching. The reserve can be accessed by driving from both coastal Mendocino and inland Ukiah, where the road traces along a windy two-lanes, offering drivers a chance to survey the scenic panorama of the Redwood canopy – Coast and Sierra Redwood species primarily – along with fern, sorrel and tan oaks growing harmoniously intertwined. The reserve is open from dawn until dusk year-round; pets are allowed in the main parking lot but are restricted from entering the reserve.
