Parma Rotta

158 Via Langhirano Cuisines: Italian

About

If you don't mind driving 1.6km (1 mile) out of town along the road to Langhirano, this is a Parma classic. It's the best neighborhood trattoria we know for sampling some of the hearty and flavor-filled dishes of the region. No one knows for sure how old the building housing the restaurant is, but everything has had a century or so to mellow out. The spit-roasted lamb or the roast pork is reason enough to come out here, although we're also fond of the grilled beef cooked in a wood-stoked oven. For a first course, many locals prefer tortelli di erbetta, pasta stuffed with fresh greens. We like it, too. There is also a wide selection of homemade desserts.
