Gallo d'Oro

Borgo della Salina 3 Cuisines: Italian

About

This is our favorite trattoria. It has an unpretentious decor with flea-market items such as antique cinema posters and old-fashioned toys. Downstairs is a bodega where locals pile in to taste the wine of the region, especially Lambrusco, which seems to go with anything served in Modena. Start with salumi misti, a variety of locally cured hams. All the pasta dishes are homemade, including tortelli ripieni (pasta stuffed with cottage cheese and fresh spinach). For a main course, we recommend the tender roasted lamb stuffed with bread, cheese, and eggs. A Parma classic is the chicken breast rolled with delectable prosciutto and parmigiano and offered in a white-wine sauce.
