Corral del Carbon (Coal House)

Granada, Spain

About

The Corral del Carbon is located at Calle Mariana Pineda, behind the City Hall. The Corral del Carbon is the oldest monument  left by the Arabs. Yusuf I built it in the 14th century as a public wheat market (alhondiga) and to warehouse goods and as an inn to shelter merchants. After the Christian conquest in 1492, the Christians used the building for stage performances. In the 18th century it was used to store coal. There is an entrance pavilion and then one finds a courtyard with galleries and craft rooms around it
