"The best" doesn't always equate to "the most expensive" when it comes to food. Taipei is filled with expensive sushi and teppanyaki restaurants that hit hard in the pocketbook, but Japan Boat is not one of them. Japan has some amazing street snacks, and Japan boat, located in the Gongguan market, makes some darn good takoyaki. Takoyaki is made by adding pieces of squid to a batter that is fried and covered in fish flakes, teriyaki sauce, and Japanese mayonnaise. It may sound strange, but once you try it, you'll be a believer. If you like spicy, request some wasabi powder sprinkled on top.
