About
Pakistan has rich and diverse cultural heritage, dating back to 5000 B. C. Pakistanis have rich eating tastes and developed certain sweet dishes that have stood to the test of time. Of these, one of the foremost liked, eaten and gifted is "JALAIBI". Jaliabi is a typical Punjabi sweet that is made of maida (extra refined white wheat flour), yeast, fried in oil and deeply dipped in sheera (thick sugar syrup cooked to brown). To add its attraction, color is added. Some crafty Halwa'ees (the persons who prepare jalaibi) make intricate designs of jalaibi to improve its plook and presentation. Various experimentation are made on continuous basis to improve the quality of Jalaibi. One of such Halwa'ee that has excelled in Jaliabi is De Gratto, near Mohalla Waris Khan on main Murree Road, Rawalpindi. Jaliabi by De Gratto is rich in taste, crispy, well-balanced in sweetness and without artificial colors and flavors. It is in great demand and you could get freshly made jalaibi. There is great rush in the evening. Normally, the outlet is not opened during Forenoon. Strongly recommended for tourists, specially those coming from India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan. Western tourists can also taste this great sweet.
