Not all galleries limit themselves to four walls, The Birrarung Marr precinct along the Yarra River makes art appreciation as easy as a Sunday stroll. Some of the area’s features include the Federation Bells - 39 bells programmed to play specially commissioned compositions several times daily. The installation was designed to be sculptural as well as aural and reminds us of the functions bells have served across cultures and the centuries. Another site of interest is Speaker’s Corner which, up until the 1960s, served as the soapbox of choice for activists, evangelists or anyone with something to express.
