Wolkenburg Schloß Drachenburg
Drachenfelsstrasse
About
The Wolkenberg mountain is located to the northwest of the Drachenfels. The New Gothic castle - Drachenburg - is situated atop it. This mountain (which is 324m high today) must have once been the highest mountain in the Siebengebirges range, which is where it probably got its name from. Due to quarrying, a large part of the tip was taken away, so it is no longer the highest moutain in the range. The Wolkenburg castle, which was built in the 12th century, was left to ruin after the knightly order died out. In the nineteenth century, Baron Stepahn Sarter of Abbema built the Drachenburg castle. This piece of evidence of late Romantic building customs can still be admired today.
