The erstwhile residential house of Pt. Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar, a renowned polymath and a key figure in bringing about renaissance in Bengal, Vidyasagar House currently has been converted into a women's college which runs various professional and language courses. The heritage building was handed over to the West Bengal government and was renamed ' Vidyasagar Smriti Mandir'. A part of the building has been converted into a museum, which amongst many things, contains a portrait of the philosopher and a terracotta mural depicting his life's works.
