Tswaing Crater and Ndebele Village

24 Miles North of Pretoria

About

The first eco-museum in South Africa, Tswaing is situated 40 kilometres north-west of Pretoria. The main features of the site are a 220,000 year old meteorite crater, Ndebele village, a marsh area and a variety of ecosystems. The museum is one of the best bird watching sites near Pretoria with 320 bird species and 420 floral species. Guests are taken by a tour guide along an impressive 7,2-kilometre crater trail, the first and only such walking trail in the country. The Ndebele village, which is a private residence of the Ndebele community, is close by, and worth a look for those interested in local traditional culture.
