About

This is the tomb of Iltutmish who died in 1236. He was the son-in-law and successor of emperor Qutubuddin Aibak. It has an exquisite sculptural character and has inscriptions from the Holy book of Quran on its walls, which have been delicately carved out like fine lace work in stone. The tomb has 3 entry points- North, South and East. The western side lies in the direction where Mecca is situated whereas the upper chamber of tower is not covered and opens in the sky. Ironically the structure of tomb resembles a lot with any Hindu temple architecture, so you can say that it is a splendid amalgamation of the two cultures.
