The Roman Edifice with the Mosaic Floor
Piața Ovidiu
About
It is one of the things you should not miss coming to Constanta. Situated in the Ovid Square, right next to the History & Archeology Museum, the Edifice attracts thousands of visitors each year. The entry ticket is a mere 5 Ron and there is no extra fee for photos. It is a 4th century AD commercial edifice which used to connect the port of Tomis (the Greek name of Constanta in Antiquity) with its central square and center. It functioned for close to 200 years and was the beating heart of this city at the height of its economic development. The main attraction is a large 2000 sqm mosaic on the 3rd terrace, which used to be one of the largest in the Roman Empire and around a third of it is still well preserved.
