About
The ancient city of Histria, is one of the most important archeological sites on Romanian soil, because of the tremendous richness and diversity of the archeological material and the sheer age of it, as well. Histria is the oldest and first attested city in the country, dating back to the 7th century BC, according to Eusebius. It was founded by Greek merchants from Miletus in roughly 654 BC and it existed for more than 1300 years, which would make it the oldest colony on the Black Sea. Apart from the ruins we visit the Histria Museum of Archeology, which has a number of very valuable exhibits. If you're there in the summer, make sure you cover your heads and drink plenty of water. The Museum has no air conditioning, but at least there is a nice toilet inside, which guests seem to really appreciate :) after the 1h transfer from Constanta.
