The River Slaney’s area between Enniscorthy and Bunclody is wide and fast flowing. From Bunclody to Tullow the banks are generally clear and the river is wide, with a strong fast current. However, there are a good number of weirs punctuated by pools with some slower flowing areas. The stretch from Tullow to Baltinglass is fast flowing, rocky and overgrown in parts. Generally fishing takes place from March 10th to September 15th, but seasons differ depending on the location. As a general guideline, fishing takes place downstream of Enniscorthy Bridge on the Slaney and its tributaries from 10th March to 15th September. Upstream of Enniscorthy Bridge fishing takes place from 10th March to 31st August, on the River Slaney and its tributaries. The River Slaney contains stocks of small wild brown trout, sea-trout and salmon. Sea-trout: black pennell, teal, blue and silver, peter ross. Salmon: Hairy mary, blue charm, thunder and lightning. This water is controlled by a number of Angling Associations including Tullow Anglers, Mount Leinster Anglers, Solsboro Anglers, Enniscorthy Anglers, Island Anglers and riparian owners.
