Peter James's thriving restaurant stands beside the bridge over the River Irfon in the centre of Wales's smallest town. Aided by an enthusiastic young team, Peter produces a wide range of traditional and innovative dishes. After substantial Welsh breakfasts, the menu moves on to hearty home cooked lunches, including snacks and savouries such as Welsh and buck rarebits, bara brith with Caerphilly cheese, Billy John's leek-and-potato cawl, Drovers ploughman's, and main dishes like Welsh river trout with fresh vegetables. cakes and desserts are freshly baked each morning by Peter's sister, patisserie Paulette Reed. Dinner starts with a taste of Wales Perl Wen Cheese and Carmarthen Ham or Ripe Avocado and Organic Oak Smoked Salmon served with an orange dressed salad followed by main course of Celtic Pork Tenderloin flamed with brandy and caramelised onion or roasted local salmon on a bed of pureed spinach and cream mash then rounded off with Paulette's profiteroles, hot chocolate soufflé, iced raspberry parfait, or homemade icecream. The popular Welsh Afternoon Tea includes buttered bara brith, Welshcakes, scones, jam and cream.
