About
Visit one of the Central Valley's premier wine destinations.
Located 100 miles east of San Francisco, Lodi is an easy place spend the day wine tasting, especially since many of the wineries are concentrated in an area 3 miles northwest of town near the Lodi Wine & Visitor Center . The center is a great place to start your visit. Its tasting bar is stocked with an impressive array of local wines, and displays on winemaking unravel the mystery of local viticulture and enology.
The Lodi region has been growing grapes since the 1850s, but hasn't always been viewed as a wine country destination, like Napa Valley. Now, with a big push to gain more attention, and good reviews for its robust Zinfandel, Lodi vineyards have gained increasing interest and respect, and several wineries welcome visitors. There are five major wineries in the area—Robert Mondavi Woodbridge, Sutter Home Winery, Bear Creek Winery, Oak Ridge Vineyards, and Turner Road Vintners—but there are also dozens of small boutique wineries like Michael–David Vineyards, Peirano Estate, and Century Oak Winery. These smaller wineries can offer an intimate and casual experience, where the winemaker might be the gentleman pouring your wine in the tasting room. Check individual wineries for tours and tasting hours.
