The Sri Thandayuthapani Temple, also known as the Chettiar Hindu Temple, is one of Singapore Hindu community's most important monuments. Built in 1859 and rebuilt in 1983, the distinctive feature of this Southern Indian temple is its roof, with 48 engraved glass panels angled to catch the rising and setting sun.
Dedicated to the six-faced Lord Subramaniam (Lord Muruga), this is the place to be if you want to experience the annual Thaipusam procession. On the day of the festival, devotees shave their heads undertake a pilgrimage along a set route while engaging in various acts of devotion, carrying various types of kavadi (burdens).
