The charming, 35-seat Evan's American Gourmet Cafe surrounded by towering pines is one of the locals’ top choices for high-end dining. It doubles as Tahoe’s most romantic spot. The menu is French-infused California cuisine, full of mouthwatering creations. For starters, try the seared foie gras with grilled pineapple and curried ice cream, topped with slivered fried shallots—or perhaps the hoisin and orange-glazed prawns with Asian-style slaw, served with tangerine reduction, chives and sesame seeds. From there, it just gets better. Pan roasted rack of lamb with pinenut and herb butter; sauteed veal loin medallions with shiitake-Marsala beurre blanc; Myers rum and achiote glazed pork rib chop served with jicama and whiyte corn fricassee, cumin quinoa and grilled summer squash. You won't know how to order just one. The service is top-notch, and the wine list is excellent. Reservations essential.
