About
This Jain temple is located near the entrance of ancient Sravasti City (Mahet), when approached from west side. The temple is locally known as the temple of Shobhnath. It is believed that Sravasti is the birth place of third Jain Tirthankar Sambhavnath. He took diksha at Sahetuk forest (hence Sahet) in the vicinity of Sravasti & attained the ultimate height of knowledge through meditation. The temple is built on a rectangular plan consisting of different strata and it has also undergone subsequent extension, addition & superimposition. The domed roof, built of Lakhauri bricks crowning the western portion of the Jain Temple, is a later superimposition belonging to late medieval period. The interior face of the wall was provided with a series of niches housing sculptures of deities. There are remains of two rectangular rooms, on the NW & SW corner of the enclosure and they are also paved with concrete. The courtyard is entered from the east by a flight of steps, the lower landing of which rests on another platform forming the floor of another front courtyard.
