Ristorante Casa di Dante (da Pennello)

Between Via dei Calzaiuoli and Via del Proconsolo Cuisines: Italian

About

This is one of Florence's oldest restaurants, housed since the late 1400s in a palazzo that once belonged to Renaissance artist Albertinelli (Cellini, Pontormo, and Andrea del Sarto used to dine here). Its claim to fame is the antipasto table, groaning under the day's changing array of two dozen appetizers. Prices vary, but expect to spend 5€ to 8€ ($6.50-$11) for a good sampling. The best of the primi are under the handwritten lo chef consigla (the chef recommends) and pasta fresa (handmade pasta) sections of the menu. They do a perfectly grilled pork chop and, if the antipasti and pasta have done you in, several light omelets for secondo.
