Restaurant La Faim Du Monde

4110, Rue Saint-Denis Cuisines: Vegetarian

About

La Faim du Monde is a vegetarian restaurant that has been steadily growing up in the eastern Plateau Mont Royal for almost 15 years now. It is now in its third location, each time getting a little larger and a little more defined. They have created a niche in the local veggie scene with a "World Music" type of menu which includes; South American, African, TexMex, Indian and Asian foods with a healthy mix of Montreal style eating (they actually make an amazing vegetarian French Cuisine style Onion Soup). The restaurant is clean and the staff are knowledgeable and warm. Everything is handmade at La Faim du Monde, even their delectable desserts. And what is brought to your table,  from the salads to the wines, is primarily organically, fair trade, and when possible locally produced. One standard favorite plate is their Aztec Burger, made with the ancient grain Quinoa, but for the real discover they have many pleasant surprises like African Maffe, (a hot and sweet dish of tempeh squash, yams baked in a tomato peanut sauce). The beers and wines are rare for a Montreal restaurant, most are organic, and whether you are a committed vegetarian or just open to meals every now and then that don't involve fois gras poutine and a 12" steak, you will certainly find great drinks and exciting food at La Faim du Monde.
