The natural habitat of the Nilgiri Tahr (Hemitragas hylocres), the Eravikulam - Rajamala region is now home to half the world Tahr population estimated at around 1300. The picturesque beauty of this mountain will make you want to tent here forever. This is the natural habitat of the Nilgiri tahr. Half the world population of the rare mountain goat (Hemitragas bylocres) which is fast becoming extinct, is now found here.Tourists are allowed only in the tourism area, which can be conveniently explored by either a trek or a safari in the forest department vehicles. The park is home to the largest population of the endangered Nilgiri Tahr (mountain goat).
