Place Auguste Lafourcade

Grande rue St-Michel

About

This large square marks the entrance to the Saint-Michel district and the end of the true city centre. The impressive marble fountain by the wall at the end of the square dates from the end of the 19th century. It's an allegory of the Ariège River meeting the Garonne, sculpted by Alexandre Laporte. It used to stand in the nearby Jardin des Plantes and was moved here in 1982.
