Situated east of Johannesburg's CBD, the most remarkable thing about Pioneers Park is that it has all been built on top of a reclaimed mine dump. A genuine, functional Dutch windmill forms the centerpiece, and the lush landscape provides for a wonderful half-hour stroll or photo opportunity. While the old mine dump cannot be said to have been returned to its original, indigenous state, the accomplishment represented by the park's obvious floral abundance is a relevant achievement, particularly in this day and age. Entrance is free to all.
