About

Travelers willing to hop off the beaten path can find much to do in the lovely neighborhood of Chacarita, including spending a weekend afternoon in the Parque Los Andes, a sprawling, leafy park that extends for several blocks along Avenida Corrientes between Avenidas Dorrego and Federico Lacroze, reaching right up to the entrance of the massive, walled Cemeterio Chacarita and the bustling Estacion Lacroze train station, which services most of the areas to the northwest of Buenos Aires proper. On Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays, the Mercado de los Gitanos, or gypsy market, stretches around the circumfrence of the park, with vendors hawking all kinds of flea market finds at dirt-cheap prices. Come to look for a vintage fur coat or combat boots, a crystal iced tea service, costume jewelry of all shapes and sizes, vinyl records for as little as 1 peso each, and just about everything in between.
