Nomade Vinothèque, Resto & Bar
Place de l'Europe 9
About
Set directly on Place de l'Europe, a low-lying valley in the heart of Lausanne's commercial core, midway between the cathedral and the Lausanne Palace Hotel, this is one of the newest restaurants in Lausanne, with one of the most imaginative and hip wine bars. Inside, you'll find long communal tables, a labyrinth of warmly decorated rooms, many accented with racks of wine and contemporary paintings. Large areas are reserved for nonsmokers, and this is the bar we'd most want to hang out in after a long day of touring through the town's museums and monuments. There's a huge list of wines by the glass, and food designed to make the wine taste even better. Examples include a platter piled high with veal kidneys and veal sweetbreads, each cooked with Noilly Prat; magret of duck with wild mushrooms; beef tartare that's prepared with just the right amount of spiciness; filet of sea bass in a sesame-coated crust; and brochettes of giant shrimp with a spicy citrus and tamarind sauce. There's also an array of tapas for lighter, pre-dinner appetites, and what seems to be a constant flow of good-looking people moving around restlessly on all sides.
