A total of 15 teams play in the Sunshine State's Grapefruit league. Seven of those teams hold spring training along a 140 mile stretch of Interstate 75. There also is easy access to the host cities via three major airports. The New York Yankees spend late February and all of March in Tampa, the Philadelphia Phillies make Clearwater their winter home, The Pittsburgh Pirates train in Bradenton, the Baltimore Orioles play in nearby Sarasota, the Tampa Bay Rays play just down the road in Port Charlotte, while the Boston Red Sox and the Minnesota Twins both train and play a few miles further south, in Fort Myers. These teams play one another frequently. Keep in mind this is an area that includes some of the finest beaches in the United States, if not the world, with excellent restaurants, fine hotels with a range of prices and an area that has a multitude of other interesting activities. One airport is located in Tampa, the second is found in Sarasota/Bradenton and the third, an outstanding new facility is located between Fort Myers and Naples.
