Positioned within an antique building whose ocher walls, wood paneling, and exposed masonry evoke a well-established and prosperous country inn, this is a real discovery in the historic core of old Tarragona. Sophisticated Les Coques specializes in fare from both land and sea and does so exceedingly well. The specialties depend on whatever is good that season. For example, their selection of mushrooms, called zetas, can be prepared in almost any style and have a marvelously woodsy taste. They also prepare the best grilled miniature octopus in town, and a wide array of roasts, grills, and stews. Among the meat selections are sirloin steak with Calvados and wild mushrooms or roast baby goat with Rancio wine and foie gras sauce.
