Its situated on the entrance of Gede Ruins next to Arabuko Sokoke nature Biosphere reserve & Kipepeo is a word derived from Swahili dialect meaning place of Butterfly's.The community's around are involved in community participatory Eco tourism conservation project by being educated on the importance of conserving indigenous Forest reserve & derive other forms of income that are Eco Friendly & not destructive & the Kipepeo Butterfly project has been a milestone breakthrough for conservation of Arabuko Sokoke nature reserve where wise use was encouraged rather than destructive forms of economic lively hood such as charcoal burning & archaic agricultural practices.Live breeding of butterfly's is done & later exported to display centres around the worlds museums which earn locals income in a Eco friendly manner
