The highway linking Hospet with Bangalore is famed for the huge colossal Kallina Kote Fort or the Palace of Stone. Its architecture and style has been done from the military point of view and is impregnable. Its features include the encircling seven huge walls each having a gate, 19 gateways, water tanks,38 posterior entrances including 4 secret ones, granaries, oil pits, a mosque and a palace. The sheer enormity of the fort is astounding and a marvel as it kept enemies at bay. Besides, the uphill routes to the gateways are narrow; uneven making it difficult to navigate. Each wall had many pigeon holes for the archers to shoot arrows.
