About

South East Asia's largest museum for Islamic art is a sprawling turquoise modern complex. Islamic architectural elements peak through details such as the museum's ceramic tapestry that greets you at its entrance and on majestic domes. Expect to find here a collection of 7000 artifacts, anything from exquisite ancient jewelry and embellished textile to large-scale models of famous mosques. It's easy to get absorbed in the exhibitions housed on two floors of uninterrupted space. The Islamic Arts Museum gives you a thorough introduction into Islamic culture and architecture. Should you find yourself flagging, pop into the Museum Restaurant, tucked away on the first floor. This restaurant serves traditional Arabic dishes such as fatoush, harirah, mansaf, mousakhan and bamya tajin, in a richly decorated space with low tables. There is also a library of Islamic-art books, a children's library, museum shop and auditorium. At the museum shop, you can find beautiful postcards with exquisite Islamic prints, which can double up as art pieces to frame up on your walls back home.
