The Hartbeespoort Dam is a major dam constructed for the purpose of irrigation in 1923. The dam was built on the river Crocodile and is located in a valley surrounded by the mountain terrain of Magaliesberg. It is now a popular destination for adventure sport enthusiasts as it offers facilities for paragliding, water-skiing and para-sailing. The area surrounding the dam comprises of an animal sanctuary, snake park, scenic trails and the Hartbeespoort Dam cable way to the top of Magaliesberg mountain.
