About

Gubara is a 6 kilometre return walk past sandstone cliffs to shady monsoon forest pool within Kakadu National Park and nearby the main hub of Cooinda. Travel 9 kilometres in on the first road to the right after the Nourlangie car park. The grade is moderate and you should allow four hours to complete the walk. It is a pleasant place to spend the heat of the day and you'll be delighted by the multitudes of butterflies surrounding the pools where you can enjoy a refreshing dip after your walk. During the tropical season these pools are connected by a series of smaller flowing cascades. Water monitors are known to have been seen in the area which have become accustomed to humans. Gubara is a good alternative to the busier Gunlom waterhole, and often the roads leading in are less affected by poor weather. An entry fee of AUD25.00 per person over the age of 16 years is required to enter Kakadu National Park.
