About

A few miles north of Kircubbin is Greyabbey, which takes its name from the impressive ruins of the 12th century Cistercian abbey. The abbey was founded by the wife of Sir John de Courcy in 1193 but was destroyed in 1572 by the O’Neills to prevent capture by English settlers encouraged by Queen Elizabeth I. The town is well renowned for its high-quality antique shops, which are popular with local and visitors.Download the Greyabbey Heritage Walking Guide.
