Gallno Island

Gällnö is one of the more unusual islands of the intermediate archipelago. It has beaches in the form of small patches, a narrow gravel-surfaced road, several protected natural anchorages and a well-preserved cultivated landscape. Pretty huts in traditional Swedish red, boathouses and homes are pleasantly collected under gnarled apple trees in the Gällnö village.

Here is also a store and hostel, a popular bar with excellent food, and a café with a wide range of delights. And the smallest hotel in the archipelago - just one room. Open areas for rambling with scattered red cabins and a well-preserved cultivated landscape. Fields, meadows, parkland and forest are let to tenant farmers on the island. Forestry on Gällnö has a strong focus on conservation.

Torsviken offers a natural anchorage, camping and sandy beaches. A narrow sound separates Gällnö from Karklö, which can be reached by the island hopper rowing boats. Karklö is also an island with agriculture and animal husbandry, where the third generation of the family are now tenants.
