About
Wander to waterfalls, vistas, and redwoods at Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park.
With its 80-foot waterfall tumbling down the cliffs to meet the Pacific, Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park justifiably earns its ranking as one of the great stops along the already exceptional Big Sur coast. Here, 3,000 acres of protected acreage encompass stands of coast redwood as well as oak/madrone forests and dense chaparral. Trails lace the preserve, providing access to wild, wind-tossed beaches and spectacular overlooks atop 3,000-foot ridges, with sweeping views of the undulating Big Sur coastline.
Added Bonus: December through April, settle down on the bench at the end of the Overlook Trail and look for spouting Pacific gray whales as they migrate north to Alaska.
