About
Ride classic carousels and coasters at the edge of the Pacific.
One of the happiest ways to play along the California Coast is to spend a day at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk , roughly halfway between San Francisco and Monterey. For an attraction that's over a century old, the Boardwalk, as it's known by locals and regular visitors, only gets better with age. The Giant Dipper wooden coaster, built in 1924, still sends riders whirling through a thrilling set of drops and curves. The beautifully restored 1911 Looff carousel still delights too, especially with its 342-pipe organ playing whimsical tunes. New rides and attractions keep things lively too, including laser tag, an arcade, and a host of fun rides.
But you don't have to tumble and whirl to have fun here. Grab a corn dog, settle on a bench, and people-watch at one of California’s last beachfront amusement parks. Finish with some saltwater taffy and stroll down the Santa Cruz beach to watch the Boardwalk lights blink to life at dusk--a perfect California moment.
