When former chef to the Grande Bretagne, Cristos Markopoulos, sought out real estate for his new restaurant, he went to where people seek the best: the northern suburb of Kifissia. Essence is where you can find gourmet Mediterranean and other international flavors, like Belgian moules frites or steamed mussels with fries, or cockerel marinated in aged red wine and served with traditional noodles, a dish that's as traditional Greek as you get. Live music and a fun atmosphere keep the fancy food from turning into a stuffy dinner. Average cost: 30-40 euros a person.
