The Dingle Marathon takes place around the Dingle Peninsula in County Kerry. Those who take part can opt to complete a half, full or ultra marathon. Wheelchair entrants are also welcome. As participants travel the courses, there is a chance to enjoy some of Ireland’s most spectacular scenery. The route itself travels through some unique and beautiful locations passing many small villages and spectacular sights. These include places like Dunquin and the Blasket Islands. Dunquin’s Coumineole Beach was where scenes from the 1970 film Ryan's Daughter were shot and the Blasket Islands were once the home of Irish author and seanachaí Peig Sayers.Refreshments are provided at the finish and there will be plenty of celebrations back in Dingle to reward the participants.The marathon is known for its special friendly feel and there is always a great atmosphere around the area over the weekend with celebrations and festivities taking place.And when the races are done and dusted, the area has lots on offer for both runners and their supporters. Dingle has a range of fantastic pubs, restaurants and hotels to choose from. There is also great surfing nearby at Inch beach and the area is famous for its fantastic walking, stunning mountain passes and historic sites.
