About
DIDI Museum is unique for many reasons. Not only is it one of Nigeria's pioneer private museums, it is also a seamless blend of antiquities and contemporary African art sharing the same space. Initially, rare antiquities in the Jibunoh collection: artistic gems like the Obalufon Bronze Head, Wood Carvings from Ife, Nok terracotta from the original excavations and, bronzes and wood carvings from Igbo Uku - were housed on behalf of the Jibunohs in the National Museum, Onikan, Lagos. They were part of the world-famous touring exhibition, 2000 Years of Nigerian Art, curated by Ekpo Eyo. When a secure and befitting space was built in the present Jibunoh residence in Victoria Island, Lagos, these antiquities were relocated and, together with the collection of other Nigerian artefacts; wood carvings, bronze castings and contemporary artworks by Bruce Onobrakpeya, Yusuf Grillo, El Anatsui, Kolade Oshinowo, Bojang and other masters, now make up the rich and diverse collection of the museum. A space-management arrangement has been achieved whereby the antiquities are stored away whenever there is a temporary exhibition of contemporary arts.
