This isolated castle is situated in the Commune d'Aumelas, which has no town center and few inhabitants. It is an interesting place to explore and provides impressive views of the surrounding region. Even though it was probably built in the 11th Century, some of its buildings (e.g. the chapel) are still relatively intact. From Montpellier, take the N109 ( in the direction of Millau) and then five kilometers (three miles) after St Paul et Valmalle, turn off onto the D114 ( in the direction of Cournonterral). After following the winding road for a few miles, pull over by the side of the road, just before a small bridge. A dirt track off to the right provides access to the castle, which is located about two kilometers (one mile) from the road.
