Cetatea de Scaun a Sucevei
Romania
About
Located on a big hill at the east of the city, the fortress was built by Petru I Musat, in a rectangular form and then fortified by Stefan cel Mare, which doubled the exterior walls and widened the moats which surrounded the fortress. Even if it has been attacked three times during the reign of Stefan cel Mare (1476,1485,1497), the fortress couldn't be conquered. The Turkish fired it in the XVIth century and Iasi became the new capital of Moldavia. Vasile Lupu tried to restore it, but the fortress was destroyed by Turkish in 1675 and then by an earthquake. The statue is nearby the Fortress, on the same hill from where we can notice the entire city. It was sculpted by Eftimie Barladeanu in 1977.
