Each August the sleepy town of Cahersiveen shakes itself awake and heads to the local racecourse. Thoroughbreds, both equine and human, come from far and wide to compete or try their luck. There is plenty of nail-biting excitement as the horses thunder by, but the atmosphere is always full of fun. Not as manicured as some other courses, there is a casual attitude and relaxed ambiance here. Post-mortems of the day's events are held at various hostelries around town in the evening.
