Arthur Young Trail

Muckross Peninsula Road

About

This fascinating walk is named after the English writer who first described it. It is seven and a half kilometers in length, and takes approximately two hours to complete. A good deal of the walk goes through the National Park, and though you do escape the perils of motorised vehicles, it's important to keep an eye out for cyclists and the odd horse drawn carriage. This walk begins near Muckross House and follows a route along Muckross Peninsula between Lough Leane and Muckross Lake. Along there are extensive Yew Woods - reputed to be the largest in Europe - which have varied carpets of mosses and liverworts underneath. There are also many fine specimens of oak, arbutus and holly trees. For further details contact the Tourist Office at the above number.
