Blue Jar

Esquina Monedo Santiago Centro Cuisines: European

About

With a shaded afresco, a stylish and comfortable environment Blue Jar is essentially a facelift on Frederick's café, which was well known as one of downtown Santiago's mid to upscale lunch spots.  The service is above average but not obsequious, and fine cheeses show up in tarts and shaved over salads, though the portions can be sparing if you are accustomed to normal-sized Chilean portions. It has a decidedly more European feel, with high-quality ingredients, and includes a taster menu. The setting is bright white yet calm, with cloth tablecloths and has a refined atmosphere. There is indoor and outdoor seating, including a cordoned-off area on a small, cobblestoned pedestrian walkway. They use quality coffee and have the espresso machine calibrated so it makes a good cup. They also do takeaway coffee.
