This brightly colored monastery looks even more glorious as it is flanked by the grand Kanchenjungha in the background. The shrine was transferred to Darjeeling only in 1879 and originally was placed on the Observatory Hill. The monastery is an integral part and a branch of the Nygpama sect's Phontag Monastery in Sikkim. The monastery has a huge library, which has collections of many Tibetan and Buddhist books. One can have a glimpse of the Tibetan life and culture from these books. Travelers can also have a look at the original copy of the 'The Tibetan Book of the Dead' at the library.
