About
Less than an hour's drive from Salzburg, in the picturesque town of St Gilgen –- the birthplace of Mozart's mother –- Angusta Grill is well worth the trip away from Salzburg's centre. Tucked into a commercial centre, Angusta Grill's contemporary cuisine belies the restaurant's pedestrian setting. Its fare, built on Mediterranean cuisine, is exquisitely prepared and elegantly presented. The popular favourite is the Beefsteak for Two. Slabs of Irish beef are expertly grilled over an open fire and carved table side by the proprietor. The remaining beef is kept warm on the grill until you're ready for it. It's served with potatoes gratin, garlic butter and three different sauces. Other choices, which change monthly, include fish, pasta and Italian specialties. Desserts are so pretty, it's a shame to eat them. But it would be a shame not to, as well. With a wood-beamed ceiling and an open-plan timber bar, the ambience is of a comfortable farmhouse decorated with modern flair.
